So much to catch up on!

Well, I suppose this means the end of “build days” and the beginning of a very belated post of all the progress over the last month. It’s, well…AWESOME.

Ready. Set. Pictures:

“Couch” ready to prime. Found this at the thrift store, and it’s perfect for the house.

Custom rain-guards over the heater and fridge vents.

The used sink needs some TLC, but the faucet is new and fancy.

Framing for the countertop. The cabinets are wall ones so they’re not deep. There’s a good reason for this with the plumbing, explained later.

Bathroom window trim in-progress. I added a deep sill so things can go there (plants, toiletries, whatever)

We planned switches and outlets pretty well…there are way more in here than anyone would probably need!

Painted a plywood top to deepen the sitting area on the “couch”

Adding some boards to the bottom to raise it up a little.

Plumbing for the kitchen tucked behind the cabinets instead of inside the walls.

Getting ready for another piece of countertop.

Solar stuff worked out well – charge controller, inverter, lots of cords, 2 batteries…

Tiny house travels to the hardware store!

Trying to select boards for the trim is hard…they are all warped!!

Space for the stove to hang down, and provides some storage as well

Great oven/stove top for the tiny house.

Random stairs in a thrift store that would be great to get up to the loft.

Trim made from pallet boards, and stained to match some of the other darker wood tones going on.

I forgot what this piece is called, but the pipe is flared.

Wrestling with copper pipe under the trailer was not so much fun.

Main propane line strapped to the trailer

Cutting and recutting the copper pipe…whoops…

The treads need to be sanded, as well as the rest just to clean up the steps

Don’t know if you can see, but there are pencil marks I’m trying to sand away

Final stain. I’m thinking decorative tile on the spaces right above the treads, so I didn’t do much stain there.

Looks awesome Sarah! What are your plans for the small house project now? Will you still keep your blog going? To give an account of how things progress…… things that work and things that don’t ….. things you like and things that that maybe didn’t work out quite like you had intended. I have enjoyed watching the progress on the small house! Thank you!

  Thanks Kevin. I still have a bit to do on the house (finish the exterior paint, interior trim, shelves, and some propane), so the blog will keep going. As for the house, I’ll be selling it upon completion.

    Well it at least sounds like you can see the light at the end anyway! Man i wonder if i can find some sponsors to pay me to blog about my adventures of traveling around in the tiny house! haha Well that means i really need to get out and see the house before it is sold i guess! Any ideas of where it may show up next? I am in Roanoke BTW.

    It’ll definitely set up shop at Newport Hardware & Supply for a while, probably closer to mid-late October. I’ll post an update when it’s down there. Roanoke is only 45 mins or so from there.

Great job! Our family spent a wonderful week in a very similar but slightly larger rental unit in the FL keys. It wasn’t green but was very liveable. Were you involved in any of the VT energy efficient homes that were in the national contests on the Smithzonian mall? You should sell the plans for yours!

Read about your small house project in The Washington Post and quickly checked it out. Love that you recycled materials and used solar energy. Kudos to you and Dad (and Mom for painting). You are awesome! I think you should tour our great country in it to show what an enterprising young woman like yourself can accomplish.
